The Exceptional Move

June 9th, 2010 by Kathryn Watson

Monday night marked the beginning of the house’s transit from the pre-build site to the Villa Solar, where Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 will take place. Our “exceptional move,” labeled as such because of its wide load, could not have a more fitting name. The transport of Module 1 weighed 17.5 metric tons, and called for a custom trailer and police escort.

There were many modifications along the way (and, as it turns out, the rain in Spain falls mainly on the Solar Decathlon site). However, an overcast sky and a few drops of rain did not water down the team’s work ethic.

The first module made its way to the Villa Solar this morning. Now, all hands are on deck as it is lowered onto its foundation, where doors will ultimately open for visitors. Stay tuned for updates.

9 days until the competition!
